Wide body kit, long arm kit, bypass coil overs. Substantive.
On a side note, David Tracy is hardcore legit.

I see a lot of similar trucks out here, really popular for shenanigans out in the desert a couple of hours east. But usually they’re trashy looking Rangers and F-150's.
![]() 01/29/2020 at 13:09 |

Yeah, I see rangers a lot, and some older gen Taco’s but this is only my 2nd or so 3rd gen and this one looks great.

The new Tacos are sprouting up like weeds around here. First widebody I’ve seen, I agree it looks good.

I mean desert running 3rd gen. The 3rd gen is crazy popular around here already.

Ahh, gotcha.

What’s that over a stock Taco? Double? I guess by “stock” I mean, the truck in the picture pre-modification, not a bare-bones 2wd single cab. Because already a TRD pro is probably double a base 2wd.

There is at least 4-5 grand in suspension...who knows on the body. Probably 10k all in.

Just the right size for that bi-annual dump/Home Depot/IKEA run :)

I wonder how those are to drive on trails and actual prerunner environments.
F urthermore, I wonder i f it would be as much fun as say a YXZ1000R or similar sport side by side. Or even a sandrail or something of that variety.
Don’t get me wrong - I love the look of these and fabtasized about a real prerunner from time to time. But this seems like a case where it might be more enjoyable and logical to get something that is 100% purpose built for trails.
They already have the truck too, so they could tow one to the trails, have a blast without worrying about binning their primary mode of transport, and tow it back in something that doesn't have insane highway noise and less than ideal handling.

I can tell you that these long travel coil- over builds with hydo stops are CRAZY fast.
This is a very similar suspension build to the SCORE stock full class.

Impressive. Hopefully it actually gets used the way it can be!

Bu t that’s part of my issue with this sort of build.
A stock V6 Tacoma is sort of slow.
The YXZ1000r for example has almost 100 hp in a 1500lb vehicle. I would be willing to bet it has quicker acceleration and the 80 mph top speed should be more than enough for trails.
The tacoma has a longer wheelbase and wider track that would probably help with high speed stability, but I imagine that’s helpful and harmful on some trails.
I know there are dedicated prerunner that make excellent 0power and would blow away a side by side in terms of speed and fun, but I'm mostly curious about this specific example vs. a side by side.

I respect SxS for what they are, and they can be faster but they can’t be driven to work, they can’t drive you to the trailhead. They can’t carry a family around.
In terms of toy v toy, it would be preference. It terms of utility per dollar, the truck wins hands down.

That thing looks like it just pulverizes the trail in to submission.
In a good way.
So good.

What does a Tacoma and David Tracy have in common? (joke responses okay, but a serious question)

literally nothing. Just had a conversation with him, a part of which I thought would be nice to share. Hope he doesn’t mind but I can’t see how he would.

Next time you speak with him tell him Toyotas are better than Jeeps. Tell him I told you to say it. I challenge him to a duel. My new Tacoma vs. his ‘Holy Grail’ Heep.

Agree 100. I’ve been looking at mid and long travel kits for my Silverado as well as baja fenders. The bad part is everything I want to do cost (or many times more) as much as the truck itself.
